Product is easily used and adjusted, great first bait caster. As well as a great bait caster for the experienced fisherman, always fun feeling the fish on this combo.

    Great little combo
    This is the first bait cast reel I have owned. It is fun to use and so very smooth. I didn't have any trouble figuring out how to cast without getting a big back lash. Haven't had much chance to use it yet, but from what I have seen so far, I would recommend it to anyone.

    Great Combo, Interesting feature though...
    This combo is amazing to use and feels great. Being right-handed I chose the left-handed reel because I Cast right and Reel left. The "Clutch" feature switch on the top of the reel is interesting but useless, simply because after I cast, my hand is already on the turn handles before the lure hits the water. Another method with most other low-profile bait casters (that I've noticed) is to press my thumb up from under the Release Button to simulate the exact same function as the Clutch Switch. BY NO MEANS does it make this Reel useless to anyone willing to use the Clutch Switch, but just another function I'll need to learn eventually with only this Reel in particular.

    Awesome Budget Combo!
    I recently got back into bass fishing again after a 7-8 year hiatus and was looking for a new baitcaiting combo since my old one I still had was broke. I was deadset on the pro-max combo but the local store was all sold out. The only ones they had were the blackmax and silver max combos so I picked up the silvermax. I put 50LB braid on it for ripping through grass and cover. Tied on a chatterbait at the local pond and not even the second cast pulled this 30-35 pound flathead cat out! The combo worked great, the rod and reel combo is STOUT! Excellent combo for the money.

    Specktacular!!
    I bought a couple of the silver max MH seven foot combo's to have some spare rods on my boat for fishing speckled trout and redfish on the coast. I put 20# test power braid on them, and rigged them up with a 14 jig head with a matrix shad. Performed flawlessly!! We have caught countless redfish and trout on them. They cast smooth, well balanced, and awesome drag system. Prefer fishing these over my Calcutta 250 on a St. Croix rod. Awesome deal...gonna get two more...

    Great First BC Gear
    Got this as my first BC and while I don;t have anything to compare it to, I've enjoyed it greatly. Nice adjustable controls and newbie-friendly braking system. I recently dropped this brand new rod to the bottom of a river and was devastated... until I magically pulled it up with my kayak anchor! Works great after getting soaked too.

    Best one I've had so far
    The silvermax has a big part of my fishing experience the last few years, I also had the black max but o thought thought the silvermax was better overall due to the flipping switch which I use a lot and haven't had any problems with. The silvermax is also a great reel for a beginner or someone on a budget.

    I purchased this reel over a year ago and since then, I have changed all of my bait casters to Abu Garcia! I am completely satisfied! 22lb black drum at Black Creek in Freeport FL with 12lb test.. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
