Summary: This book is part of a series and starts with George and Harold running away from Tippy Tinkletrousers. He is disrupting the timeline, kind of like a butterfly effect for the main characters. It also helps serve as a prequel to the whole series. Personal connection: I had never read a Captain Underpants book, and this one seemed pretty far into the series so it was a bit confusing. I could definetly tell how younger students would be interested in this book. Class use: Have students illustrate their own graphic novel.

    It was fun to see the ...
    It was fun to see the backstory of Harold and George; however, this installment of the Captain Underpants series was heavy - literally and figuratively. The ratio of words to pictures was significantly higher than in the earlier books. This made the story more interesting to me, but slightly less engaging for my six year old... the reason for my reading the series in the first place. It took us much longer to plough through #9 than any of #s 1-8. Already started #10 and it seems to be more of the same. Maybe we'll finish it by Valentine's Day?

    Every Captain Underpan...
    Every Captain Underpants book is called an "epic novel", well, this time Pilkey has certainly presented fans with "the" Epic Captain Underpants novel. It is huge for a start (over 300 pages) and the plot is so convoluted it contains about three stories in one! This has got to be the best book in the entire series and I've already read book 10, but this one makes me want to read #10 again just to follow what happens next. After six years between books 8 & 9 being published, Pilkey put everything he had into this book; it is absolutely hilarious. Taking us into a future that was meant to be, a future that could have been and the one that really happened. We also go way back to when George and Harold were in kindergarten and first met. The majority of the book takes place within this storyline and is fantastic! I just loved it!

    PSC REVIEW: Just when ...
    PSC REVIEW: Just when you think the coast is clear, here comes another Captain Underpants adventure. Yes, I only read this book because I had to for a review, but I'm here to tell you it wasn't painful. Pilkey's got his trademark goofy characters and humor. And he's got a few zingers thrown in there as food for thought. Harold and George have been sent to the juvenile detention hall because they've been accused of robbing a bank. They, of course, are innocent. The evil deed was actually perpetrated by their evil twins. They really don't find lockup much different from school, except there's a library and books and an art teacher. The best part of the book is the story about how Harold and George met in kindergarten and outsmarted the 6th grade bully. And that's quite a story. As a librarian wanting "deep" literature for my kids to read, this may fit the bill but not in the way I planned. I often find myself telling kids who have their nose stuck in the Captain Underpants books, "QUIT READING! I'm trying to teach."

    Jake's Review: I think its totally awesome that mom got to meet the dude who wrote Captain Underpants. The C.U. books were the first set of books I read to myself without my parents help. I still remember how they used to read them to me at night too when I was a baby -- and btw Mom and Dad used to fight over whose turn it was to read that night (mom used to play the I gave birth to him and it really hurt argument). This book was really funny and I liked how you found out how George and Harold became friends. The pranks they played on the bullies were hilarious -- but a little scary at times. I liked the comics that George and Harold created and I think I want to make my own comics now. The stuff I didn't like was that there were barely any flip o rama's and at times the story was kinda scary and sad. I can't wait till mom scores me the next book! Jake's Rating: 8/10 Mom's Review: I have been a huge fan of the Captain Underpants, and Dav Pilkey, since my sister introduced them to me when my son was born. Being the awesome aunt she is, she bought my newborn son the first three books in the series for us to read to him. Well, we waited till he was 3, but from the first page the whole family was hooked. We recently introduced them to Jesse, who is 3, and well, another fan is born. My highlight of going to BEA this year was being introduced to the man himself and receiving a signed copy of this book. This installment is a wee bit darker than previous stories, but still showcases Pilkey's wonderfuly wickedl sense of humor. The man truly understands what entertains middle school readers (lots of potty humour and showcasing parents as morons), while at the same time emphasizing the importance of standing up against bullies and what a true friend is. I enjoyed the back story about how George and Harold became friends and I am now counting down the days until the 10th book comes out. Mr Pilkey -- I love you and hope you enjoy Canada when you come to visit -- Captain Awesome will take good care of ya! (Sorry I cannot make it as my dh dragged me to the other side of the country to live -- and well you know what -- how about you come and visit Calgary too -- we need you out here!) Mom's Rating: 9/10 I recieved a signed copy at the Captain Underpants event at Book Expo America 2012 (Yes it was my highlight of the event)
