Very Fine SSD Notebook
This Win10 SSD Notebook has some nices features: keyboard with a good size and great feel, high resolution screen, good battery life, better than average sound, and very fast performance thanks to it's i5 4 core 8 thread cpu and solid state storage. The unit feels solid and I think it's one I could actually take to a Court hearing with me and it would be useful.
The keyboard lacks a dedicated Sleep key combination, which is a minor annoyance. But the Power button works in such a way that the Sleep function can be assigned to it using Windows Power Options, without losing the Power Off function. The F-key row is also dedicated to media functions, like volume, brightness, pause/play/forward/backward, with the actual F-keys being an Fn combination.
Win10 is the Home version. A personal machine like this might make that reasonable, but I still cry out for Pro.
While I find battery life claims are often suspect in general, this unit gives me a good 5 hours of average use before needing a charge. The only time I ever heard its cooling fan come on is during a recharge, and it was for brief intervals.
The body is notched slightly in front to make it easier to open the lid, but the unit is light enough that I still found it a little awkward. The battery does not appear accessable (as it is in every other notebook and laptop I have ever used). It's difficult to be sure since the only instructions included is a 3x5 size card, single sided, that literally uses half of that to show how to plug it in and turn it on. The other half shows the external ports, features, and indicators. Navigating to the support website reveals that this Gateway model is actually a separate "licensee" of the Gateway brand (now owned by Acer). Support featued is very thin, at best, at this time. No manuals to DL.
There are LEDs for power, caps lock, and num lock. No HD activity. Ports are USB 3.0 x2, USB 3.0 Type-C, HDMI, Audio out, and microSD (512G max). No network RJ. I used the microSD slot with a 256G flash card, and it worked like another HD.
The unit's touchpad includes a finger print scanner, which once configured, makes logging in almost effortless. The "Tuned by THX" audio has a good sound, but I don't hear much difference compared to my other devices.
This notebook has a very good all-around feel. Its size, solid feel, nice keyboard, high-res screen, very good battery life, and fast operation make it a winner. It's easy to get used to an SSD's speed, compared to a standard HD; you notice when you go back to another computer. Even my i7 2T HD desktop had me finger tapping where I wasn't with this notebook's i5 and 256G SSD. Nice sound together with the dedicated media keys make this notebook a good choice to view and play media.

Cheap Chinese re-branded laptop!
Complete waste of money
Gateway USA was bought out by a Chinese company called Shenzhen Bmorn Technology, who also make the EVOO laptops that you see online for cheap.
These laptops are one in the same.. they are made (Very poorly) in the same factories and shipped with the Gateway "USA" name brand.
The wifi chip on my 14.1" died almost right away
Even with an external wifi dongle, it still won't hardly pick up wifi anywhere in my house, even directly next to my router..
The battery in both the 15" version as well as my 14" version doesn't last more than an hour or two off of charge
The OS is extremely buggy and has several issues a day where the laptop needs to be restarted
the Mouse trackpad barely works as it should
These are CHEAP Chinese re-branded laptops and I advise you to steer clear if you value your money and sanity.

1.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser09/29/2021STAY AWAY FROM GATEWAY1Fan on this device failed after 6 months, sent it back to Gateway for warranty repairs and received back a GWTN141-1 a dramatically inferior computer. It's been 2 months and this still hasn't been resolved, Gateway doesn't answer the phone or return emails! Stay away from Gateway it is no longer a legitimate company!Thomas

1.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser09/05/2021DO NOT BUY - READ THIS TO FIND OUT WHY!!!I made the mistake of getting sucked in because of the strong specifications (i.e. 16 GB of RAM) for such a cheap price. I gave this to my wife and she didn't need to use it all that often and still within six months the keyboard stopped working. After resetting it back to factory default settings and some further troubleshooting with Gateway, it was determined that the keyboard failed. Then I was told that yes this would be covered under warrantee but that I had to pay for shipping and this thing is HEAVY so not cheap to ship. In the end I bought my wife another computer instead of spending more money on a computer that's just gonna break down again and again! DO NOT BUY!!!!!!Robert

1.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser07/02/2021NEVER AGAIN…..I started my log in/start up process and got as far as choosing my country for location but then had to turn it off until later. When I turned it back on to complete set up and start using it, I got locked out. I had no way to try re-setting, and I tried several things. I called customer support, started speaking with a gentleman who had such a strong foreign accent I couldn't even understand him and therefore I asked for someone else to help me at which point he hung up on me instead! If I had a ZERO star, this is it!Jodi

4.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser05/15/2021SketchyI have not used the computer very much due too illness but it is very easy to set up and use. The cost was VERY attractive, as was the balanced keyboard which has the touchpad very nearly centered, while many others have a very unbalanced setting. This is quite important to me because a very unbalanced setting causes resetting the strength I need to use the touchpad while working quickly. Likely not a problem most others encounter. Fancifully, am just glad that my last laptop will bear the same Gateway crest as my first laptop in 2000.Elizabeth

3.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser05/10/2021Major issues with finger pad and low volumeAt first I loved this laptop, but now about 6 months later I am starting to get more frustrated with it. My husband and I both have this laptop and on both laptops the finger pad is not calibrated anymore. Every time I click something using the finger pad it only right clicks (pulls up a menu). I also cant scroll anymore. After only using it a couple times a week for 6 months this is not okay. Lastly, the volume is terribly quiet on these laptops. Even on 100 volume it can be hard to hear.Leeanna

5.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser03/18/2021Cheap in price but not in overall qualityThis is the little laptop that could. First thing once I received this unit was wipe the 256GB SATA m.2 drive and installed Linux on it. Aside form the fingerprint reader (a bummer) every piece of hardware is fully supported (yay!). This little guy is fast and for the most part quiet. The fan kicks on every once in a while and can be heard but it's not obnoxious. It's by no means silent though. Luckily the fan kicks off pretty fast. The screen is reflective but otherwise looks really nice. It's bright, sharp and doesn't wobble when I type. The keyboard is quite comfortable for typing but is a tad on the cheaper side. The keys are kind of too plastic feeling. Luckily typing is really comfortable so I am able to forgive the materials used to make the keys. The track pad is borderline unforgivable and the only weak spot in this laptop. It's janky as heck feeling and has a lot of wiggle. The plastic feels downright cheap. But that being said it's always worked properly. It's been responsive and fairly accurate as a pointing device. Other than materials it's ok for moving the pointer. Oh, and the fingerprint reader doesn't work in Linux. I've accepted it, though. As far as expansion there is an extra SATA m.2 slot accessible via a trapdoor on the bottom. As per Gateway tech support you need to use a SATA m.2 drive and not a nvme drive. So even though the port is labeled nvme you must use a SATA m.2 drive. Also from Gateway tech support the BIOS is completely locked down. You can enter the BIOS by hitting ESC at preboot but there isn't a lot you can change. It's probably for the best as most people could bugger up the settings. Also for expansion there is one micro SD slot for memory cards, a headphone combo jack, a HDMI port for an external monitor, 2 USB 3.1 A ports and a USB C port. The port is advertised as data only but it can unofficially charge the laptop. One final note I should mention is battery life. I get about 5 hours 30 minuets out of a charge. You'll get a little more time out of it on windows but on Linux I get the 5:30. Still, I'm not complaining as I mostly use it around the house when i don't feel like sitting at my desk.Jeremy
