Stick with their normal stain
So my stupidity for buying into the 'ease of use of gel stain', as it is not easy to use nor does it produce the same results as Minwax's other normal stains. I did some research before I stripped and sanded a hutch and decided to try the gel stain. The gel stain is thick and if you don't super quickly start rubbing it in, you are left with a very uneven coat. I learned this the hard way. I had to use a thinner to remove the first coat and start over. You have to work in very small areas, quickly rub it in before it starts to go to pure glop and then it doesn't move. Not worth the time wasted.

    Colors are not what they show
    We purchased Coffee Gel Stain to redo our inside railing as it showed the color on the your web site and on the can, however the actual color is BLACK, totally messed up our railing

    Love this product!
    I've used Minwax Gel Stain when I refinished my bathroom vanity and it came out perfect! So, I decided I'm going to use it on kitchen cabinets-just haven't decided what color yet! These are old cabinets in my parents house, that date back to the 1950's and really need to be refinished. I've also used the Gel Stain on their outdoor window shutters and sealed it with 3 coats of Spar Urethane for outdoors. They came out beautiful and we were able to match the window box! I've also used the Gel stain on an old coffee table from the 70's. I gave it a quick sand and put on the gel stain, then used a wood grain tool on it. It looks great and I still use that table!

    Good for crafting
    I restore curbside finds and I needed a stain that would give good coverage for a badly damaged leather topped side table. This product was excellent not just for the wood but also for the leather top which was badly discolored and pitted.

    Cleanup instructions?
    Would be great if linear put their cleanup instructions on their products can (mineral spirits? Acetone?? Soap and water?) Also, if suitable for interior and exterior, or just interior etc..

    I googled to see if there was a wood stain that will cover over painted wood. MinWax came up. Bought it and SO HAPPY I did!! It is flippin beautiful!! I didnt sand my base board either. Base boards were painted white. Wanted wood look. Very much recommend this product!!!!

    Smooth to brush and roll
    This was a really nice gel stain. I tried brushing and rolling it with a good, even coverage from both. The color was deep and matched the can well! I would use this again for my other staining projects.
