Reusable, but let's a weird silt filter througj
I bought this because it's reusable. The filter strains the coffee just fine, but I've noticed that the mesh allows a thin silt to filter through which tends to settle to the bottom. Paper filters seem to catch the finer granules a little better, but the downside is that you have to throw them away.

Listed as Proctor Silex, box says Hamilton Beach
First off, Proctor Silex and Hamilton Beach must be the same, because they are asking me to review my Proctor Silex 8-12 cup permanent gold toned filter, but the box says it's a Hamilton Beach and the product number is the same. I bought this for my new Hamilton Beach 2-way brewer. At first, it appeared too small, as it only goes 2/3 way up. However, when I fill it half full of coffee grounds it brews a nice strong pot of coffee without making a mess with the grounds. The grounds stay inside the gold filter and don't spill over. The basket has a handle, which makes it easy to pull out for cleaning. I'm glad it's not any larger, as my husband tends to want to fill the filter all the way full and we end up with coffee that tastes like what dirty oil smells like.

screened bottom vs solid bottom filters
came by way of Fedex in about 4-5 days. The is an extra filter basket, as our first one is hard to scrub completely clean. I also bought the 'solid bottom' filter basket at the same time. checking to see which is the best for brewing coffee. so far, it's a toss up!

Permanent coffee filter vs paper filters
Works OK. My issue with it is that it is a pain in the butt to clean. Being lazy that is a big issue with me, only saving grace is that this product is eco friendly. Now if they only made biodegradable paper filters. For the cost of paper filters @ Walmart vs. the inconvenience of cleaning (very messy), might want to reconsider purchasing this product.

    Excellent coffee Maker
Like the availability to make single or 12 cups of coffee. Quickly brews with a hot cup of coffee when done. Program timer easy to use. Priced right.
