Great Everyday Skillet for a Great Price...
Never owned a cast iron skillet before. last one I used was my mom's 8" back in the 70's. Needed one to sear steaks off a smoker and/or baking dishes in the smoker while a roast is smoking. Did some research and there are a few USA made cast Iron cookware manufacturers out there but very costly. For $20 for a 12" by Lodge I figured it was worth the try since they had good reviews. I've had it now 1 week and browned some ground sausage for sausage stuffing, then baked the stuffing in the skillet in the smoker while the turkey was smoking. Fried some eggs twice, seared prime rib, and made chicken piccato in the skillet. The skillet worked beautifully. The first dish, ground sausage had very minor sticking but after that nothing stuck. After use I wash it with warm water and no soap if possible. Thoroughly dry and apply a thin film of vegetable oil then wipe off. I can see the seasoning building up. Next up will be Creamy Tuscan Shrimp. Lots of cast iron recipes on Lodge, Stargazer and Finex websites. If you're having issues you're not following the use and maintenance directions

Poor packaging ruined the product
I really like lodge cookware, and this is more my frustration with Walmart this order (of which almost everything has to be returned). This item arrived hanging out of its box, with a gouge created in the handle (if you know cast iron, this would be livable) and unfortunately a crack going up the rim. Due to my area, this is now an hour trip just to return it. Ordering from Walmart actually cost me a stupid amount of time and expense, and the poor packaging wasted a product that normally can last a lifetime. Will have to figure something out for Thanksgiving now.

Customer Service not interested in customer
The pan arrived without the ASSIST HANDLE. As the gift if for senior citizen, I thought it important to have that safety / handling device. I asked for the missing item to be shipped to me. After three days they asked me for PHOTO of missing item. LOL I sent them copy of the WMart AD detailing the missing item in word and picture. Did not think a big deal to comply with my request. But they insist I create return, ... So now a week later, on Sunday when I intended to present the gift to 84 year old, I have to begin process or return and (maybe) reorder.

Perfect so far and works with induction
Got this cast iron skillet mainly to finish cooking steaks on. Got a sous vide for Christmas, but my electric griddle wouldn't get hot enough to get a good sear on it (we're renting a house and it doesn't have a working stove/oven, so I cook with appliances) Got the skillet today, for use with a Nuwave induction plate. Washed the skillet and dried as advised on the label. Then cooked the steaks to Med Rare with the sous vide, then tossed one at a time in the pre-heated skillet with olive oil for ~1min/side. PERFECT crust on the steaks. Looking forward to seeing what else I can cook with this pan! Will update review if I encounter any problems.

    Good size, thickness, helper handle.
Smoother texture than the Ozark cast iron counterpart. Still rough surface to season easier over time. One of the thicker cast irons in it's size group! I have 2 if these. 1 was fine. The other had metal sticking out on the surface. (I could not sand it down without damaging the surface balance.) I also bought the Ozark version for comparison. Seasoning on the Lodges do not hold well. To be safe I seasoned them 3x w/ grapeseed oil and been cooking with it almost daily. Both are nonstick for me. Perfect size for 1-3 people. For budge pans based on quality I rank them; Victoria 1st, Lodge 2nd. Ozark|Mainstay would be the best priced options. If you cook with this until it has a glass like surface then you have yourself a great family heirloom for future generations!

    Use it as non-stick pan
I like this pan, after a few time used, it totally non stick anymore. I almost use it for every day. I like to use this pan to cook fried rice.

Good but a bit heavy for me.
I was impressed with this cast iron skillet. The rise in the center was only about 1mm and when I tapped it it rang good, no cracks. I really wanted to love this pan and realized I needed to develop a relationship with it. Read how others thought they preferred a smooth finish so I did sand it smooth before seasoning. I did season it four times with flax seed oil in the oven but when I went to use it realized that I needed to be more careful not to get it too hot. When I learned how to use it it worked well and did not stick. I loved that it was big, the usable flat area a full 10" and nice and deep. However I have to accept that in my 70's, with a poor back, it is too heavy to handle but have been storing it in the oven which helps, I have not found the handles too hot without mitts as it seems if you get the handles too hot, the pan is too hot to work well. Only complaint is the weight but know that is the reality of cast iron.

    *****VERY DISAPPOINTED!*****
Giving it a 3 because I like the price and the fact that it included a lid. But, not satisfied with the quality. Not "Lodge" quality. The bottom surface is rough and pitted. Will be returning!

    New pan has noticeable crack
I have several Lodge products, and these flat-bottom skillets are the best. I'm thinking that Walmart is not the place to purchase these. I was disappointed to find that the one I received had a noticeable crack-- why even package and send a defective product? This is definitely below Lodge standards. Additionally, this pan was packaged and mailed with two beauty products that have pump-tops. The pan smashed one of the pump-tops, rendering the product unusable.

    Nice but shipping sucked
While I like the pan the shipping box was a mess. To make you order a certain amount and then deliver like this is shamefull

Waste of money/it rust and i couldn't finish my re
What a waste of money. I don't like writing a bad review but I lost my money on this item. Short and sweet it RUST! And Walmart wouldn't even let me write my complete review. When I got it I thought this is a nice strong pan for cooking meals enough in the oven. but its started rusting. Yes, rust! The thing started to rust within minutes of being washed. and the first day used. How am I supposed to clean that darn thing? Well shortly after I tried to wash it again but that only made it rust even more. I could even smell the odor of rust coming from it. what a waste of my money. I can't use these anymore. I thought these would last me for a while but they didn't even last 1 wash.
