You will not be disappointed!!!
I was skeptical prior to purchase because it appears there are many speakers and subs that don't perform well at this price point. I bought it at Walmart rather than elsewhere because this allowed me to return in case it sounded poor, which I highly recommend to anyone trying to find the right speaker setup for their application. In my case I was looking for a passive subwoofer for my home theater system (since I already have a dedicated, stand-alone Kenwood power amplifier). I know, I know. Home audiophiles may read this and perhaps scoff at my solution. In doing my research I was disappointed with the price-point and specifications of so-called "home theater" subwoofers (powered and passive). It seemed as though I would have to pay 2-4 times the cost of this MTX unit in order to procure a subwoofer that was officially designed to be "home theater". This subwoofer box allowed me to easily modify the internal wiring so the combined impedance is 8 ohms, which is the minimum that my home amplifier will allow. The Kenwood is rated 300W output continuous, but based on what I hear I am confident the unit pushes peaks well beyond that. I will add that, as you may see in my picture, I am using an adjustable crossover and line level that allows me to fine-tune the box for any given source material. I have the cut-off set at about 100 Hz which means the box is asked to reproduce frequencies at or below that number.
The end result is fantastic! Although I am not a home theater audio expert, I have been a live music drummer for 40 years and also an electrical engineer for 25 years. My ears don't lie. I am very happy I purchased this unit that is the ported version. The box easily fills my entire living room with solid low frequencies. These are the types of lows that you feel in your bones. My seat shakes and I feel like getting up to see if there is a helicopter or airplane flying over my house. When movies are played the box produces punches and sounds that actually SCARE me.
After hearing the results of this set-up, I most likely will never over pay for a "home theater" subwoofer solution in the future. This loaded subwoofer box by MTX, along with an existing power amplifier, gives you the biggest band for your buck in my opinion!
