Even nicer than expected
Nice glossy black on the bottom and the lid is matte black. Internal ring to firmly hold the trash bag in place and keep it from being seen on the outside. Sensor works great with 2 D batteries which are not included.

Dented in Shipment
Item arrived from FedX in unsatisfactory condition. Back of trash container all banged in and almost impossible to remove bottom corrugated protective (LOL) eggshell. I did try to straighten the metal canister but it still looks terrible. Starting return ASAP. Hopefully next unit will arrive undamaged. Walmart/Mainstays? need to mark "FRAGILE" on box and/or use a better protection method for shipments.
Also wondering if Walmart/Mainstays/FedX willing to offer cash settlement so I won't have to return this item?

Pens, shopping bags, food he's still eating, just to name a few. The lid even has a button to turn the sensor feature on and off, but this doesn't stop him. So, is the trash can child proof? No, but it doesn't claim to be. Is it my favorite trash can to date? Yes, and it probably will be for a while.Emma

They put it in a large bag and shipped it Fedex. As one might guess, it came dented and with the lid cracked. I don't blame Fedex as a bag is no way to ship a large crushable item. I returned to local WM but could not exchange, just a refund. So I had to buy its replacement from off the shelf at WM (for 50% more $). I did not consider ordering another from WM online as that might arrive crushed too (a bag to ship, really?). I won't buy fragile items online from WM again, not worth the hassle and expense. Otherwise it is a useful, handy gadget. Works as designed.Andrew

We've only had to change the batteries once after the first month because we used cheap batteries from the dollar store, but now we're using duracell and have had no issues since. When assembled correctly the ring hides your trashbags. I will definitely be purchasing as housewarming gifts.Andrea

This was not in its original box, just a big Walmart box with a little bit of brown paper in it. The second can was also dented. It was returned and I got my money refunded. So that was the end of that. It's a shame that I can't buy this can in the store so I can check for dents myself, but it's online only.Nancy

It does open sometimes when I walk past it but I am really enjoying using it! This is my first automatic trashcan and it is very nice! When I received it the package was extremely beat up and I was very worried that it would be dented. Amazingly there were only some very tiny indentions on the backside of the can that are not noticeable at all. I did not see the need to return it since the dents were so small. I have only had it a short amount of time but so far works great!Karen

The sensor opens the lid whenever someone walks by. Being in a townhome with little room in the kitchen and dining, I don't have options for keeping it out of our pathways.
