Wonderful Prodect.
This is great stuff. One thing to keep in mind don't put it on to thick remember a couple 3 coats is better then 1 heavy coat that could run. I went with 3 lighter coats

Bare wood and finished wood both dry uneven
The stain is uneven when dries. A light even coat is applied but when it dries it's flat and blotchy. The bare wood turned out good but it took a few times of sanding and reapplying. The biggest trouble we're having is the post we picked up from the lumber store. They where pre finished so we roughed them up and put a coat on. The stain is acting completely different on the post then it did on the stair caps(bare wood). The stain is like water and dries really fast and uneven. We tried to buff the unevenness out with steel wool but the finish is gone once we get it evened out. Any help would b appreciated, the project is st a stand still.

    Didn't adhere well
I prepped the surface by sanding with 220 and cleaning with microfiber cloths. I applied the first coat with a staining pad and then sanded with fine steel wool removed any debris with microfiber cloth. I then applied a second coat.I was happy with the color and look, but after a couple weeks it's pealing off.

    Terrible off gassing
Bought this product in order to save a step using poly and stain together on a custom hutch top. Turns out it is extremely light color and takes at least 2 to 3 coats to get color over bare wood. Followed the directions and allowed proper amount of time to dry and sanded between coats. The finish did dry smooth and seems to be a hard finish. The biggest issue I have is the terrible off gassing. It's been two months and the fumes coming from this finish is still as string as first applied. My entire shop and everything in it smells like this finish no matter how much air flow I put into it even two months later. I do not recommend this product for any type of indoor use unless you are prepared for fumes for several months. It's understood that oil based finishing take longer to cure, even up to 30 days but this is extreme.

Type of wood and previous finish matter A LOT
I bought the satin espresso to update a barn door and sofa table in our main living area. The sofa table was a pre finished oak with a light stain and followed the instructions and it came out beautifully. The barn door on the other hand has been a nightmare. Stripped all of the paint off and used pre-stain wood treatment as suggested and still turned out super blotchy. Some places look blood others flat and some satin. Used a quality brush the first time then sanded as recommended and used a staining pad because of the way the first application turned out. Neither did the job and probably going to end up just finding a paint for the door instead. Maybe it was the pine but it looks horrible.

    Inconsistent color/results
I've used Bombay Mahogany in Gloss, and Antique Walnut in Satin. The Bombay Mahogany was terrific! Deep color that matched the advertized color, easy application that smoothed out very well and streak free (I used a very good quality brush made specific for the product). The Antique Walnut was a tremendous disappointment. The color is very, very light, and it doesn't match the image on the can. My best description would be it looks as if it had been thinned a whole lot, or a whole lot of color was left out. Bleah. Added photo has a title description which isn't showing up. So, just in case, the Ant. Wal. Satin (two coats) is at lower left; regular Dark Walnut stain (no poly) is at upper right. Major coverage difference.

    Great glossy seal
I decided a few weeks ago to redo my bathroom cabinets as the original stain and poly were starting to peel. I sanded down the cabinets and headed to the store to figure out a stain and poly. After doing research on which color of stain to do I found out our local stores did not carry this specific Minwax with the stain and poly in one. We choose a colored stain from a different company and used the Minwax poly to seal it in. I was very impressed with ease of application, drying, and gloss of the seal.

    Good stain
Top piece was before. Goes on easy. I used an old rag to rub on. I prefer a rag to paint brush because it is easier to apply. I used two coats in the pictures. The stain brings out the grains in the wood. I like this stain a lot and plan to use it for other projects.

Great Idea But Don't Recommend It
I bought this to refinish a dining room table (pecan) and I stripped the damaged finish and sanded down to bare wood. I have tried 2 thin coats of the Polyshades product but the results are unsatisfying as it is impossible to be consistent with the amount/thickness applied and the result is lighter and darker shadows. I did wet sand between coats with wet 600 waterproof sandpaper and again after the second coat but still the result is blotchy. I am now going to have to sand back down to bare and use a traditional stain and clear urethane finish. I would only suggest this product for small areas or touch ups and not where you want a dramatically beautiful finish as on my dining table top or furniture tops. I hate wasting my time and effort by having to do a job all over again so take my advice and go the stain, then finish route!

Looks good but don't paint it on.
I use a rag and rug it in to the wood. Rub it in really good and don't let excess sit on the wood and dry. I only use 1 coat.
