This product eliminates existing mounds, but does not prevent new ones....
This does actually kill the mound, however, it doesn't get rid of the ants. I spread this product across 3 acres, the mounds were abandoned, and no longer occupied by these fire ants.... For one acre lot (you'll need approximately 9 bags) Two weeks later the ants have formed new mounds... Considering the amount of product you needed and price I've paid, I'm not impressed. The product had a six month guarantee and two weeks later I still have fire ant mounds. It did eliminate the existing mounds, just doesn't prevent new ones.

    It Works!
    Worked great for me. I had ants making homes between my patio pavers and under my flower pots. I sprinkled this over their mounds and runs, sprinkled lightly with water, and next day the ants were gone!

    Bye Bye Fire Ants
    Since I have started hiring someone to cut my lawn, I am not always aware of issues that arise from ants. We were getting ready to have a party and viola, my wife informed me of the invasion in the backyard. Nothing makes for a bad day as Fire Ants. I spread the Ortho Fire Ant Killer a day and a half before the party (in my back yard) and when I inspected the mound the next day, it was dead. HOORAY for the home team! I like this better than some of the other treatments that I have tried and the little boogers take it into the mound. There is no left over residue to get on children/pets/etc. from the treatment.     No more stinging!
    Before using this product we had fire ants throughout our lawn and garden area. We could hardly walk outside! Once we started using the Ortho Max the ants disappeared and stayed away for months! We were grateful to be able to walk in our yard again!
