A Roku for your "old" tv.
My main motivation for buying this was to be able to stream VidAngel movies to our TV. I thought Roku was out of the question for us due to the fact that our TV doesn't have HDMI input. When researching possible options I considered a HDMI to composite converter but the reviews on that option weren't good. Then I found this. It's been great. The VidAngel movies stream well with no difficulties so far as do Netflix. Plus, since we cut cable back to a very basic package with no DVR, I'd been having to catch a lot of the prime time shows I watch on a smartphone or tablet but now I can watch them through the Roku and the 9 free hunting/outdoor channels have eased the no-cable sting for my husband.

Faster than Roku 1, Slower than Roku 2 or 3
We bought the Roku Express+ to facilitate a connection to our Digital Video Recorder, which requires a Composite Video Connection. The Roku Express+ is slower when compared to our Roku 3 (Model 4200X) and Roku 2 (Model 4210X2) . We timed them, 17% slower (when loading the same HboNow Movie) up to 70% slower (when loading the Sling Blue Menu). Pros: Much faster than the Roku 1 (which we returned after one day). Has Composite Video connections. Good price. Cons: Somewhat slower than our older Roku 2 and Roku 3. Like the Roku 1, the Roku Express+ does not recognize 5Ghz wireless networks. (This probably isn't a problem for many unless the 2.4Ghz traffic is so high in your area that it's difficult to find a usable 2.4Ghz channel. In addition, 5Ghz isn't affected by microwaves and other devices operating on the 2.4Ghz band. We use 5Ghz wireless whenever possible.)

    Very Cool Device
I got the Roku Express+ so that I could give our PlayStation a rest. We were using the PlayStation continuously for Netflix, YouTube, etc. I thought we might be waring it out prematurely. My favorite TV is our oldest TV. It doesn't have an HDMI input. I chose the Express+ because it has the component connectors as well as HDMI that hook up to my TV. It works just as good as the PlayStation but has a better onscreen format. I like that I can control it with my iPhone or IPad. The remote works well too and even has bottuns for Netflix, Amazon, VUDU, and Sling that take you right into those apps. There are hundreds of other apps that you can download onto the device. Some specialize in TV shows, some in movies, and other in both. The Roku is very small and does not take up much space. Most people don't even notice that it's there. I would recommend this to anyone that has a TV without an HDMI input that wants a device like this.

    Great deal
So easy to use on older TV's. Just hooked it up and it was ready to use. Lots of free channels and Walmart offers free trials with this purchase that makes up for the cost of buying it. Great product and great deal.

    but will not cut cord
ROKU is easy to set up and does work with old 3-wire (black, yellow, red) TVs. I read a lot about the product before purchasing but still had some not-so-good surprises. I thought it would do screen mirroring or casting but the latest software of 7.2.2 which works on the 3710 ROKU will not support that capability. Sad. Also it seems to be impossible to just do a search for a movie title and find which provider might have that for free. I have only had the device for a week and played with it perhaps 10-20 hours so maybe soon I will catch on? Also when Directv was in a dispute with ABC and that station was off air I tried very diligently to find David Muir nightly news and although I could watch local news off ONTv (I believe) the signal went off afterwards and no David Muir at 6:30. So I think I just added to the '57 channels and nothing on' problem. On the plus side I can watch youtubes (like Rick Steves travel videos) on the TV and not on my phone now!

GREAT ITEM - New life to older TV
Like many, I have an older TV that does not have a HDMI port. The Roku Express + allows use of composite (white, red, yellow) input. It works! The instructions are easy and only take a few minutes and no degree in electronics. I have Roku on another TV and when I used my same account information it ported all my stations (which you just have to activate before first use). So if you have an older TV with or without cable you can down bring it into the world of streaming. Remember you still need to have wi-fi in your home. Very pleased with this purchase.

    worked exactly as described
I have an older TV that does not have an HDMI port. I have previously used the wii to connect to things such as Netflix, but this was not always reliable and I often found myself having to restart the wii to get connected. I ordered the Roku. Took me maybe 15 minutes to hook it up to the tv, change my tv settings to allow the display, connect to wi-fi, and setup the Netflix account. Works exactly as expected, every time. Couldn't be more pleased.

    Great for older TVs
I needed the a Roku for an older TV in my office. The TV has limited input options. The cable service required the HDMI port so I needed a Roku unit that provides standard audio / video connectors. This product meets my requirements at a reasonable price. I am very happy with this purchase.

This is our second Roku device
I bought this as a gift for my mom because she liked the one I have so much. She likes the availability of shows that she enjoys from various streaming services. It's really easy to set up and the usability is appreciated by her because she doesn't have a real good understanding of a lot of technology.

    Roku express +
The Roku Express + is a low cost streaming stick. While this unit is not as fast as the More expensive Roku models,it does work very well. The feature that this unit has that can really come in handy is its analog output allowing its use with older TV's and video recorders. Both analog and HDMI outputs may be used at the same time which makes it possible to watch in HD while recording in SD. The remote uses infrared technology which requires the remote to see the unit unlike the other new Roku models which use RF. Since the unit is tiny placing it near the TV is easy .
