new directv now roku user comments
I've been using directv now with roku for about three weeks now. getting accustomed to this new system has not been entirely seamless. it has not lived up to my expectation yet. I must emphasize the word, YET. I am still hopeful that the monthly savings for this service will prove worthwhile for all the difficulties I have encountered setting up the system and using it on a daily basis. the difficulties in setting up are that there are few instructions, nor video guidance yet. many channels require going to my computer and "activating" individually. sometimes, the activation is not permanent, like PBS or the History channel where I either cannot get the channel even after activation (History) or I must re-activate each day that I what to watch the channel (PBS). while watching programs, very often the live feed is interrupted or lost for a few seconds. this annoying problem happens frequently. also, I did not get the email that allows me to activate channels via my email until about seventeen days after I changed to directv now. would have made things easier. I hope that directv now and roku will get the set up and use corrected soon so that new users don't encounter the same problems I have. I have been very patient, but I won't last forever. I've thought of canceling and going back to my old way of getting cable TV. good luck on your end. i'll give it another month. mike

    Easy install. Works well. Remote is very basic and needs to provide more options in operation. Other than that has performed well.

    The Roku Premier is nothing but a Roku3. I thought this thing would turn volume on tv but no does not. Only thing it does is turn tv on. The Roku stck plus has way more options

    Slow to No response. This is not the Roku you want
    I have Roku III and stick before own the Premiere. The Roku system is easy to use and platform neutral. With that said, the Premiere is not a good choice. Ir remote has very small field of view. This making switching between streaming channels and selection a chore. Speed of the unit is lack luster and painful to use. Buy the stick it's cheaper and just as slow. Or spend the money and get a better performing Roku model. I can't recommend this model.

    We have the Roku set up with our primary tv and are enjoying the many shows and movies available. However, the secondary sets that have the firestick are erratic with programs cutting in and out. In particular, Fox News Channel streaming through Directv Now cuts in and out consistantly.

    Better than the rest
    i bought this to save money on my cable bill. Roku supplies a better picture with 2-3 times as many channels. The Premiere is much better than my Roku 3 and the original. Roku has the Spectrum app. I can not find it on Apple TV and Fire TV. Now I get cable for free in 3 other rooms in my house. You must have strong internet.

    I purchased the Roku Premiere after several years of owning one of the first Roku's to come out on the market. I decided to upgrade because my old Roku would crash when I would stream videos and it would lose connection with the remote. I'm glad I made the upgrade because the Roku Premier works very well with video streaming, it's fast, and it's more streamlined. The only negative is that I have to be pointing the remote directly at the box and it can't be blocked by anything. With the older Roku I had I could be in another room and still use the remote but with this new one I have to aim directly at the box. It's not a huge problem and overall I'm very satisfied with this upgrade.

    The Premiere and the Ultra are two different items. THe pic shows it is a Premiere the Ultra cost $122 min The premire is 79
