This item is very close - just need to finish
I tried using this hand held spreader for Pennington fast acting lime. Things started out well but deteriorated when this granular lime started jamming the shaft that connects the agitator inside the hopper to the wheel underneath the hopper which throws the materials onto the yard. The hole around this shaft is too large which allows the agitator to force materials into the gap between the shaft and the body of the hopper. The shaft is held in place on only one end which allows the shaft to shift from side to side inside this excessive gap and allows the agitator to force materials into this gap making it impossible to turn the handle. I returned this Scotts spreader to Walmart thinking I just got a bad one. But discovered all the other Scotts spreaders at this Walmart and at my Home Depot and at my Lowes were all manufactured exactly the same as the one I had rejected. After considering the issue and my need for this type of spreader I recognized I could not disassemble this spreader and retro fit the shaft inside the hopper with an o ring or steel washer to reduce the gap around the shaft and better stabilize the shaft. I really liked this spreader and will probably end up buying this spreader again and trying to come up with a way to keep it from jamming.

    Easy and effective
    Perfectly easy to use and does a great job on a small yard. The spreader itself is light weight and the pull out arm rest really makes it easy to hold up with one hand for an extended period of time.

    Great product for the price.
    Having purchased several of these as gifts and for personal usage, obviously we like the simplistic functionality and of course, the price delivered. The adjustable forearm rest is comfortable and easier to control than those you just hold by the handle. You adjust the opening of the gate by the dial on back, pull the trigger to open and turn the handle to spin the spreader. For winter, these are excellent for spreading ice melt.

    Spread weeds dead!
    I bought this on clearance and went back for another one! Spreads better than my push seeder. Easy to control and the adjustable flow rate is nice. Great product
