Good, Multisensory Approach to Reading
I used this "teacher-friendly" book for the last four of my six children. Now using it with grandchildren. Because dyslexia runs in our family, the multisensory (seeing, hearing, and writing), phonetical approach to reading helped introduce the sound foundation they needed. Each of the 100 lessons takes around 20 min., so in one summer, your pre-schooler or kindergartener will be reading phonetically with confidence (not by guessing, using "sight words"). I help other families' kids learn to read, and have given my copy away several times, so keep buying a new copy for home! Although I usually like buying used books, I am glad Walmart offered it new.

Helpful book for teaching sounds
Our daughter has been struggling to learn to read and it hasn't "clicked" for her yet and this book is helping me to help her accomplish this goal.

    Must have
I had tried to teach my kid to read by getting a whole library if books Dr. Suess etc.... but did not help... But this book is a savior. By the time we were half way through my son already started reading whole paragraphs on his own !

This book is amazing! My first language is Japanese and the same as my daughter who is four. She has studied English language since last year , and she can read English story books now. Just amazing!! My daughter is much more confident.

I homeschooled our eight children and used this to teach them to read. Now my grandchildren are being taught with this same tool. Highly recommend!

better and more welcomed than bob books
best book to teach phonics. My LO doesn't like the bob sets at all, but she quickly became interested in this one and started to be able to do blending.

    Good for ADHD
I bought this for my stepson who has ADHD. He's in kindergarten and already behind in reading. We've gotten through five lessons and not only does he like how easy they are, he likes the idea of actually being able to learn how to read. This book teaches in a different way than how kids learn in school, and so far it works well for my stepson. The lessons are short enough that he can focus and get it done, and I love that I'm already seeing a difference!

    It works for my 5-year-old
I have been trying to teach my girl (since she's 4 and a half) using Hooked on the Phonics for half a year. We are getting no where. She's frustrated; I am frustrated. It made her cry when I said it's time to do reading lesson. I decided to try other materials. One of my friends was using this book with her boy. So I think, hey, it's only 12 bucks (it was on sale when I bought it at Walmart.com), I will give it a try. We are 15 days into the program and I have to say IT WORKS! My girl now loves to do reading lessons. She's confident in sounding out words and is looking forward to the next lesson everyday. I am so glad I made the switch! This book is very easy to use. Instruction cannot be clearer.

I am a homeschool mom of three wonderful boys with different learning styles. I knew the curriculum I used on my oldest son would not work for my middle son. He was having difficulty blending the sounds all together to make a word. The method used in this book helped within three lessons. He has confidence in himself now, that he can learn to read, even though he is four. I highly recommend it!!!
