Practical purchase experience
I have purchased TB554 model two years ago, used it almost every other week and it never failed me even once, very happy with it. Gave it to my daughter and ended up buying the reasonably priced TB516. This smaller model works as good as the bigger one. If the basic, very simple instructions on the handle bar is strictly followed, it will perform like the bigger model. This smaller model is very light, very easy to handle and does not take a lot of space to store, you can even hang it on your storage wall.

Bought this edger and was very excited, Was the best product ever! until about six months down the road. Took both of my Troy built units to a small engine mechanic because they would not start, confirmed that I bought a sub quality product (the Carbs have issues with contact with Gas???). I whish that I would have read the reviews of others....... I would like to see the directions to keep them running for a longer period of time, expected at least 2 years. not just six months

Loved it until the belt broke...
Worked great for 3 sessions and then the blade stopped spinning. Took it in and the belt broke. I will update y'all on how the warranty exchange goes.

    Great edger
Very happy and very satisfied with edging. Light so it handles easily especially when it is on grass to do edging.

    Minimal edges
Easy assembly and starting. Blade position can only be adjusted vertically. There is no angular adjustment. Blade is too heavy and dull for motor capacity. Blade tears grass rather than producing a sharp edge. Unit was cheaply priced compared to other edgers but then I got what I paid for! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Worst piece of lawn equipment you can own
Primer bulb to carb quit working so gas needed to be poured down carb to get unit primed. Chord broke and only way to fix was replace entire side of engine cover. To replace belt you need star bits and wheel/entire right side of trimmer has to be removed. User manual/Parts list/directions are a joke. This machine is poorly built and not intended to be worked on. Throw it away and buy complete replacement when something beyond blade wear out occurs.

    TB516 warranty
my 9 month old TB516 worked very well until last week. it wouldn't start -- did everything per the manual -- still didn't start. took it the authorized service center -- they replaced the carburetor but said that it is not covered by the Troy-bilt warranty since the failure is due to the use of ethanol gas. there is no caution or mention at all about ethanol gas in the Troy-bilt literature. the service center said that they have tried several times to get a warranty honored by Troy-bilt but to no avail. what good is the so-called 2 year warranty??

    Disappointing Edger...
I rated the edger a two because it's still new and red! Performance is very disappointing. I would have to agree with the person who said after 6 months it doesn't start! Same thing. I'm not a "handy andy" BUT I checked out the belt and it was loose, hence the blade would start and stop rotating; the spark plug is clean; the air filter is clean. I thought this would be great! Bought it in October 2012 and it stopped approx. working in April... I'm thinking of returning!

    6 months later
I bought this edger late summer. it was easy to assemble, and use. 6months later, it's impossible to start, and if I do get it started it will only idle. when I pull the throttle it dies out. I'm disappointed, I was hoping that this machine would at least give me a few years of trouble free operation.
