With the body of a man...
With the body of a man and the head of a dog, Dog Man is like no other police officer you've ever seen! He manages to save the day many times despite -- or perhaps because of -- his unusual abilities and interests, like licking bones and playing with squeaky balls. This is especially important with multiple villains in this title, including series regular Petey the cat, a flat version of Petey, and an impostor Petey all running around committing crimes. I picked this book up because all children seem to love the series so much and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. It is as described in the book itself "just a bunch of mindless action and dumb luck!" However, all that adventure and humor is just the sort of thing that kids need sometimes. I must admit to getting quite a few chuckles out of this book as I read it. Pilkey's "flip o rama" action pages are peppered throughout, along with "how to draw" backmatter, which are an added appeal.

4.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser05/28/2021DOG MAN is a new series of graphic…DOG MAN is a new series of graphic novels for children by Dav Pilkey featuring a dog-headed police officer. Like Captain Underpants who was created by George and Harold, Dog Man is an unusual superhero made by a pair of friends. In the first book, this “crime-biting canine” is created when a police officer and his police dog are combined to save both lives. The resulting new superhero has some quirks, but he quickly gets to work capturing criminals like Petey the Cat and other evil doers. Two additional books including Unleashed and A Tale of Two Kittens explore stories featuring evil Petey the Cat. The latest addition to the series introduces Dog Man's new sidekick Cat Kid. Together they become an effective crime fighting team. Librarians will find a huge following for this hilarious new series. With endless jokes focusing on the relationship between dogs and cats, this new series will appeal to pet lovers along with fans of Captain Underpants. Published by Graphix, an imprint of Scholastic. 4.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser03/02/2017If you read and liked ...If you read and liked Dog Man #1 then you'll love #2. This is more of the same about the adventures of the half man-half dog cop. Two criminals are on the scene this time: a fish that gets an overdose of brain pills and Petey the evil cat. Aimed at about the 7-9 age range this series would be good pre-Captain Underpants. Following the same footsteps as the Underpants books Dog Man Unleashed has a formulaic pattern, flip-o-ramas and little kid bad grammar. I like Captain Underpants better but still, think this is a fun graphic novel series.ElizaJane
