Ordered a new modem but was delivered a used modem
I ordered a new modem but what was delivered to me was a used modem that the third party vendor obtained from Amazon Renewed. I know this to be true becasue there was a sticker on the modem box that said, "Thank you for giving this device a second life. Amazon Renewed." The modem came in the orginal packaging but it wasn't sealed. I paid $139 for a new modem. Currently on Amazon Renewed a used modem sells for $109.99. I am not happy about this Walmart shopping experience.

Update version of a proven performer.
This model is an update of a proven performer in the world "bring-your-own-modems". Most cable providers have stepped up to DOCSIS 3.1 but not all modems operate stably. I chose this one because it does.

A picture is worth 1,000 words
We had been paying for 200MBps internet but never got those results. Our internet kept going down constantly and was very slow. Sometimes as low as 5MBps. My husband works from home so we couldn't afford to keep losing our internet. We had our internet company come out and look at everything. We were told we needed to get a modem by itself instead of a modem/router combo. The modem/router we had didn't even work with nano beams that my husband needed for his office he built by our house, so luckily we had an extra router we hooked up with our modem/router combo that did work with nano beans. Anyway, I purchased the Arris sb8200 since that was recommended by our internet company. In the store, it was $169, so I ordered it online with grocery order pickup at the same store for $152. The price is constantly fluctuating online. I took a screenshot of the speed test with our modem/router combo, then another one immediately after with the ARRIS modem and Lynksys router. What a difference! Like I said, a picture is worth 1,000 words. 100MBps faster!

It took 2 calls to Comcast tech support to get this unit connected and up and running. It works well after install. Is this Comcast's fault? Maybe.

Maybe I got a defective one.
This worked great, until it didn't. We had it for four months and everything was working well. Randomly the lights on the front started flashing and we weren't able to get it back online. Now I need to look into the warranty and replacing it .

    Works Well - lasts longer
ARRIS is what most of the cable companies use. They last longer. I bought an ASUS router and it died after about a year. Never going to buy that brand again. Stick with the one that works. ARRIS.

    Plug-n-play
Pretty much a plug-n-play device. Contacted our ISP for setup, and voila! Clean and compact design. Boots up in reasonably quick time. I am very satisfied.

    Doesn't work with Xfinity/Comcast
I spent days and days - weeks really - trying to get my Arris SB8200 cable modem to work. I was online with technicians all over the world, Mexico, Philippines and Guatemala, sometime for hours at a time. I connected it directly to the Xfinity input to the house, it didn't work. I had the Xfinity technician come out, he could not make it work. He added a Viewsonic Q-6-680 equalizer, and replaced some equipment outside my house. We could never get it to work. There is a bunch of garbage online about the dBmV levels. The levels I have are fine. Just buy the Netgear Nighthawk 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem instead (Model: CM1200-100NAS) - it just works.

    Great router
This was my first experience with Arris modems, and so far, I am pleased with it. The modem was very easy to set up; just follow instructions. It was ready in about 5-10 minutes. My internet connection has been stable, and my internet works all around the house. I had no problem connecting more than seven devices at the same time. The app that it comes with is straightforward to use. It allows you to change your router name and password. The best feature of all is the parental control that allows parents to shut off the internet on a kid's device after set hours. I would definitely recommend it.

    Dual Purpose
I recommend SURFboard SBG8300 Wi-Fi Cable Modem to anyone who needs a cable modem, wants to stop renting one, and who also needs a WiFi upgrade. This is a cable modem, and NOT for DSL or Satellite service. This DOCSIS 3.1 and has four 1-gigabit Ethernet ports, so it should be able to handle the higher speeds internet providers will make available in the future. The Arris SURFboard SBG8300 comes with the modem, power adapter, ethernet cable, and a quick start guide. I connected the modem to power and coaxial cable. Then I called my internet service provider so they could activate my service on the new modem. They asked me  for the HFC MAC ID number for the modem. It is located on the bottom of the device, and it also is on the back page of the Arris quick start guide. This process only took a few minutes and the service was activated on my new modem. Next, I setup my WiFi connection since the SBG8300 is after all also an AC2350 wireless router. To setup WiFi the guide instructs to download the Arris Surfboard Manager app. This setup guided me step by step. After the WiFi was configured, I connected my devices. The Arris Surfboard Manager app, itself,  has some nice features including:  ability to edit your WiFi settings, check connected device list, a speed test, a WiFi spot meter, and parental controls. The Arris Surfboard SBG8300 does double duty as a modem and as a wireless router. It may be best recommended for smaller homes utilizing fewer devices, but it is a solid device, for those who want to break free from modem rental fees, and have a good router that will grow as their service provider does.

Constant resets to prevent jitter & packet loss
Have had problems with this modem since purchase. The issues seems to get worse with time or maybe I have become less patient. Modem works fine after reset for a period. Over time the jitter and packet loss becomes noticeable. With more time it becomes unbearable. Reset the modem and start the cycle all over again. I have gone through the maddening cycle of replacing cables and lines. Cox support has done trouble shooting and sent a tech out. Both have told me the modem is probably deflective. Seems to be a persistent issue for many. If I only browsed the internet or streamed movies it would only be noticeable a bit and require a reset once a week or so. Since I FPS game it is terribly inconsistent and frustrating beyond belief.
    I pay $300 for this?

    Nice Modem
I bought this modem to avoid the $12 per month charge from my cable company. It was easy to hook up and also should be useable for many months to come as it is a DOCSIS 3.1 modem. Im on a 200 MB per second download speed program, but Im seeing download speeds of 260 MB per second. I cant speak as to reliability as Ive only had the modem for one week.

Modem (SB8200) works excellent and is super-fast
The new Modem (SB8200) works excellent and is super-fast. I replaced my old Modem (SB6121) with Comcast - Xfinity. To do the swap out, replace, and install your new Modem plan for a 2-HOURS window for firmware update and cable provider to recognize your new Modems MAC address, model number, and device numbers. Turn off your Modem and Wi-Fi Router. Install your new Modem, attach the coaxial cable, and power on the new Modem with NO Ethernet cable at this time. The Modems LEDs will turn on and illuminate. The Modem will update the firmware that can take around 20 minutes before all the Modem lights are on and steady. Plugin the Ethernet cable to the computer and power on the computer. Open webpage for Xfinity or your service provider. The Xfinity will take 10 minutes to read your new Modem. If this locks up after the 20 minutes, then turn off and reboot your new Modem. Open the webpage for Xfinity again and retry Modem recognition with Xfinity will see the updated new model. You should see at Xfinity or your service provider your new Modem model number and MAC address. Connect the Ethernet cable between your new Modem and your Wi-Fi Router and power on; after about two minutes, your wireless network should be up and going once again. If not, reboot your Modem and Wi-Fi Router, wait for 2-5 minutes, and be online once again. If your service provider does not Auto-Recognition your Modem, you will need to call and give them your new MAC address, model number, and device numbers to use your new Modem. MM (10-8-2020)

It works well when it works. After a month we've been having connection issues. The Xfinity technician said that our connection was great but the modem was having issues. He said that Arris isn't the worst out there. But it also isn't the best and to go with Netgear. Something was likely damaged in the product shipping or something.

Do not buy this if COX is your provider.
If your service provider is Cox do not buy this modem. I spent hours on the phone with Arris and Cox trying to get it to work and at the end I was told by Arris to return the item. The modem is not supported by Cox. Do not waste your time.
