What you need - and what you want, too
If you are a new parent, you are worried about what you need – really need – for your infant. The Philips Avent All-in-One gift set has all of what you need, and a few extras that you will just want, too. The Anti-Colic bottles with air-free vents have quickly become my favorite bottles. The large holds more ounces that many other designs (either from Avent or other bottle manufacturers) and is comfortable to grip for both mom and baby. The real magic, though, is in the air-free vent. It is an all-in-one piece that is easy to clean and pop into the bottle. When we use these bottles (which we do pretty much exclusively, now) it sounds like she is swallowing much less air than with other styles, all the way down to the last drop. I do wish this bottle was compatible with the Avent Natural nipple style, as that is both her and my favorite. The cleaning brush that comes with it is convenient, and I like the spiral at the end for getting caked-in milk out of the tip. The microwave sterilizer has quickly become my go-to method of cleaning my bottles, pumping supplies, and pacifiers. I have an older, smaller microwave, however, so it isn't quite as easy as or as fast as the pictures promise it will be. I have to microwave the parts for longer, so be sure to pay attention to your microwave wattage and the instructions that come with the sterilizer to make sure that you are actually getting your parts clean. Also, size is definitely an issue—I have to remove the rotating tray for it to even squeeze inside my microwave. It took me a little while to get sorted with the bottle warmer (I nearly wrote “warm up to” before I realized my punning error). When it comes to defrosting bags of milk, it isn't as fast as running them under hot water. It does, however, conserve water, and when you put the defrosted milk into a bottle it will warm it up much better than running water will. Keep an eye on it—or better yet, keep a timer, because it can get too warm. It definitely isn't a necessity, but it is one of those nice things that does the work of two hands when you feel like you are already three hands behind. The orthodontic pacifiers are one of our favorites. Our daughter takes to them much more easily than the heavier (rubber? Silicone?) Avent kind. These are light and well-shaped, so she tends to keep them in. The only problem is how clear they are; in the dark, in the middle of the night, in that panicked space between a stirring baby and one in a full-on wail, they are hard to find in the crib in time to pop into her mouth. I haven't had much of a chance to use the partitioned formula container, but I was grateful to have it when I travelled for a conference and worried I wouldn't have enough pumped milk to leave while I was working. The container allowed me to portion out formula for easy, emergency baby food, and it stayed firmly closed in my diaper bag despite multiple bumps. I also haven't gotten to use the transition “my first training cup” yet. Overall, this gift set gets both mom and baby started with a great variety of needed products, and some that are a really nice indulgence. Many thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this product to try and review.

Set did NOT come with the bottle sterilizer or warmer. It came in the box the bottles are in and not in an actual box. The box was completely messed and they looked used. I did not spend $70 on a $30 set.

Missing Items in the Gift Package
I bought this gift pack for my nephew and his wife. The gift item was missing the microwave sterilizer and the feeding bottle warmer. I contacted the seller twice and to this day, I still do not have any response from them. I am going to contact Walmart directly to ask for a return label. Do not buy this particular gift package.

    BEWARE
Avent brand is definitely my favorite, all of their products have always worked fantasticly for my kids! BUT I bought this set because the PICTURE shown and the DESCRIPTION both say that it comes with a bottle warmer. But It did not come with a bottle warmer. After going back and reading more reviews I realized that a lot of people had this same thing happen to them. THERE IS NOT BOTTLE WARMER with the essential gift set, which is why it is cheaper than the other. I must definitely love the product !! But am upset it was falsely advertised.

    EMBARRASSING!
If you are giving this as a gift DONOT. It was sent to the new mom. The bottles are loose in the carton. This is no bubble wrap or paper around them and they are dusty. They arrived damaged. The mother to be is high risk and is now unable to get to the door to have someone return them for her. I am very dissatisfied with their care.

Great starter set that will grow with you, just needs a couple tweaks
I've been a nanny for a couple of decades and thanks to the many families I've had the privilege to work with I have tried most of the popular products out there, especially items like bottles, warmers, pacis, etc. I have my favorite brands that I have tried & tested in my own experience and because I'm a brand loyal kind of person it was unlikely I would be swayed to like anything as much as my favorite bottle brand. I was pleasantly surprised though, when I was given the opportunity to review this gift set for Phillips through the WeeSpring parent panel and I really liked it. My favorite bottle brand was an industry leader for helping colicky babies when they first emerged onto the scene years ago and I doubted the Avent set could give my favorite tried and true bottle design a run for it's money. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Avent bottle seemed to do just as good a job for my poor reflux baby minimizing air intake. I also really like the curved design in the middle of the bottle to give your fingers a better grip. This comes in especially handy when you're blossoming little one starts to grasp and grope for control and the bottle is more easily knocked out of your hand. I also liked that the air-reducing part was just that-a single part that didn't have to be disassembled. Plus, BONUS the insert actually fits through most dishwasher basket's nipple holes so you can save space in the big open part for things like bottle necks, caps, etc. The biggest, and maybe only downside of this bottle for me, is that it's plastic. The warmer was the biggest item in this set that I found fault with. And honestly, it works really well, warms the milk pretty evenly and unlike other brands, Avent tells you to put the whole bottle together then warm the milk so you can grab and go easily, unlike other brands whose parts shouldn't be warmed due to heat exposure. The biggest struggle I had with the warmer was the less-than-intuitive instructions in the owner's manual. Once I got it figured out it wasn't so bad but it needs a lot of trial and error and the icons on the dial are also unintuitive. Definitely don't try to use this warmer for the first time when you're in a rush to get somewhere. I also find it crazy in this day and age that the warmer doesn't have a timer on it so as a sleep-deprived new parent you have to remember to set a timer or risk the milk getting too hot and then figuring out how to cool it. All that to say, once I found the sweet spot for us on the dial I just left it there, plug it in when I need it and it makes things a little easier. As nuts as it sounds the biggest surprise item I loved the most in this whole set is the brush! I love that it's curved on the sides and tip to get the bottle sides well but that the bristles don't go all the way around (360 degrees) so you don't get splattered when pulling the brush out through the neck of the bottle. The bristles are good quality and the brush handles well in my hand. Hands down (pun intended) my favorite bottle brush! My son wasn't a fan of the pacifier but that's not a reflection on the quality or usefulness of the item. We don't use powdered formula so I haven't needed the cup yet, although I love that the internal divider is removable so I definitely plan to use it in a couple months once my baby is on solids and needs a snack cup for on the go munchies. We also don't use a microwave anymore so I didn't try out the sterilizer and my son isn't old enough for the sippy cup function yet so I can't speak to those features but I love how intentional the designers were on trying to make this a grow-with-you complete set. Overall I'd say this is a good one-stop starter kit to get life with your new little one off on a good note. And as a bonus, once your little one gets too big for the little bottles, the parts are all the same so you can use all the parts in the big bottles and just wash the bottles in between feedings.

    New Mom Necessities
There are so many things a new mom is told she needs when having a baby, baby feeding essentials are at the top of the list. So many brands and types of bottles it can be hard to decide which to buy and furthermore how do you know which ones your baby will like?! The Philips Avent Gift Set simplifies the overwhelming attempt at buying everything a newborn requires by including what a baby needs at multiple stages in one set. I would recommend The Philips Avent Gift Set for new parents as it includes (2) 9 oz bottles, (2) 4 oz bottles, (1) 4 oz sippy cup, (1) formula dispenser, (1) bottle brush, (2) pacifiers, (1) bottle warmer, and (1) bottle sterilizer. My baby is 3.5 months old and I have used all of the items except for the 9 oz bottles and the sippy cup which I plan on using when my daughter is older. A few weeks before returning to work, we began feeding my daughter a bottle before bedtime to get her comfortable with bottles as up until that point she was exclusively breastfed. At first she took the bottle great but after a week she began disliking the bottles. It's been over a month now and she is much better and prefers the Avent bottles over any other brands we've used. My baby doesn't get much gas when drinking the bottles but she also has never been a very gassy baby. She usually has 1 small burb after drinking a bottle. The bottle warmer is easy to operate and I feel that it heats the milk up evenly in the bottle. My daughter definitely likes her bottles to be warm so the warmer has allowed us to heat up a bottle while doing other tasks at the same time and knowing the bottle doesn't have hot spots adds to the ease of it. I do wish the bottle warmer had a timer that could be set for the multiple settings it offers as having a newborn and setting a timer can be a lot. The settings allow various content sizes, a defrost setting, a keep warm setting, and a food warming setting. We are not to the food stages yet but I know the food warming setting will be very helpful in the near future as I plan to make most of my baby food and freeze it. There are times when the nanny takes my daughter out and it's easier if she brings along formula instead of trying to heat up frozen breast milk. On days like this, the formula dispenser is perfect! The premeasured dispenser is so easy to use and alleviates having to carry around a large formula container. You can have premeasured formula amounts and just add water and you're on your way to a happy baby. When baby is hungry, anything that helps get a bottle faster is a plus in my book! The bottle sterilizer fits multiple bottles and is something we usually do at the end of the day. All bottles are washed when finished with, but it's nice to have a quick, easy way to sterilize them and get them ready for the next day. Just add a little water to the container, pop in the microwave, and done! The pacifiers weren't my daughter's favorite and are no longer in our pacifier rotation. I think the part that goes on her face was just too big for a newborn and covered her nose. Perhaps for a larger, older baby the pacifiers would have worked better. I would definitely buy this gift set as a gift for a new mom or for yourself. It includes bottles that will be used over multiple stages along with a transition cup for when the baby moves on past bottles. Everything in the gift set is easy to use and easy to clean. Thank you to weeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this gift set to try and review.

A Great Complete Feeding Set for New Parents
I am a first-time mother, and I primarily breastfeed my three-month-old girl. I received the Philips Avent Gift Set from the weeSpring Parent Panel shortly after my daughter was born, and I've been so happy with it! It has everything that I've needed for feeding (besides my pump and milk storage bags), and it is so convenient. I also love that most of the items will be useful for a long time. Bottles First of all, the bottles seem great. I would give them a 9 out of 10. There aren't too many parts, and they all clean easily and are dishwasher safe. Usually I just rinse them quickly after using them, and then I can sterilize them when I get around to it or before I use them. I did forget to rinse once for a few days, but the milk still came off easily. I rarely need the bottle brush to clean the bottles. When it comes to preventing gas, spit up, and colic, the bottles seem almost as good as breastfeeding. There tends to be at least a little air in the nipple, especially as the bottle starts getting emptier, but there certainly isn't as much as in a bottle without the AirFree vent, and my baby swallows a lot less air. My biggest complaint about the bottles is that the bottles and nipples are not direction specific, but the anti-colic inserts for the bottles do have to be in the correct orientation during feeding so that the air goes up through the vent. Sometimes the bottle will twist while feeding, so whoever is feeding has to pay attention and make sure the vent always stays up. I would recommend teaching any caretakers how to assemble and use the bottle personally. I think that there are a good number of the bottles for a breastfeeding mom as long as you have something else to store pumped milk in the freezer. If you do a lot of bottle feeding, you might want to have a few more bottles than just this set if you don't want to wash them every day or two. Sippy cup One of my favorite things is that any of the bottles can convert to a sippy cup. You just put the handles on, and then you can put either the sippy cup top or the nipple on. This seems like it will be very convenient when it comes time for my baby to transition from the bottle to the sippy cup and beyond. It also makes the bottles a lot more useful for a much longer time, which I love. Pacifiers The pacifiers are pretty good. I would give them an 8. My baby doesn't seem to like pacifiers a ton. She doesn't hate these ones, and sometimes prefers them to her others, but sometimes won't take them. I do love that they come with caps that snap on, so it's easy to store and carry them without worrying about anything getting on them. You just have to know to pinch the pacifier cap to get it off (see pictures). I think the pacifiers are a little big for newborns, and the balance seems a little off so that they're always trying to fall out of my baby's mouth, but I don't think they're too bad. They seem to be better for my baby as she is getting older and has outgrown her newborn size pacifiers. Formula Dispenser I never used the formula dispenser as a formula dispenser since I breastfeed and don't even have formula. Instead, my husband has been using the dispenser to carry his protein powder to the gym, and it has been working for him. He would give it an 8 out of 10. Some of the powder will move from one compartment to the other when he pours it out, so the measurements don't stay exact, and things can get mixed in there, so he can't put different things in the different compartments. The amount that transfers isn't a lot, though, so it still works just fine. Even if you never plan to use it for formula, the container is good quality plastic and could work great for carrying all sorts of things like snacks or maybe pacifiers or teethers if the divider is removed. Bottle Brush The bottle brush is amazing! I would give it a 10. I worried at first whether the bristles would clean the bottoms out well enough, but it actually works great. It is very useful for washing dishes too! I like that the other end of the brush works as nipple cleaner, which I prefer to my other bottle brush where the nipple cleaner screws into it (that one always comes apart when I'm using the brush). This brush is one of my favorite parts of the set. Bottle Warmer The bottle warmer is great. I would give it a 9 because it fulfills my expectations for a bottle warmer except that it doesn't have a timer or automatic shut-off. It works quickly and easily. All you do is fill it with water, throw in a bottle or milk storage bag, and within minutes it is warm (or thawed if it was frozen). You do have to be careful not to leave the milk in there too long if you have the warmer set too high or it will get too hot, but if you turn it to keep warm it seems to stay the right temperature and not get too hot. Sterilizer The last item, and possibly my favorite, is the sterilizer. I would definitely give it a 10. I didn't think I would care too much for the sterilizer, but I absolutely love this thing! It is so convenient. I fill the lid with soapy water to wash all of my baby feeding items, including pacifiers, bottles, and even my pump parts. Then I just load everything into the basket, fill the bottom with water, pop it in the microwave, and it only takes about 5 minutes to have everything clean and sterilized. It is so easy and such a lifesaver for me. Conclusion Overall, I think this is a great starter set for a new parent. It has had everything that I've needed as a breastfeeding mom. All of the items are good quality, and well worth the investment. I would certainly consider giving this set as a baby shower gift, and I think it's a perfect item for an expecting parent's registry. Thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel for letting me try it out!
